Read the headlines.
We’re doomed. Wall Street has failed. Banks have failed. People and nations are losing money. This has never happened before. Even billions and billions of dollars can’t possibly help us. Global economies are dying.
Now, DON’T read the headlines.
DON’T watch the news.
Close your browser windows.
Turn off the radio.
You still have your stuff. You still go to school. You still have your family and friends. You still have food on the table. You still go out. You still have money in the bank. Gas is cheaper than it’s been in a year. Life is, well…pretty much the same as it was, and as it’s ever been.
How are the headlines affecting your parents? How are they affecting you and the way your family operates? Are you seeing any change? Feeling any hurt?
Things sure sound really, REALLY scary right now…ARE they?

VOTA
Formerly known as Casting Pearls, VOTA’s self-titled release is the band’s ‘official’ debut despite a few releases under their former name. It doesn’t take long to
realize VOTA is not a freshman group however.
Quite simply, VOTA has an instantly familiar feel. While I hear influence from Maroon5 and Leeland, the vocals have a similar feel to that of Kevin Max’s distinctive crooning. Another element adding to VOTA’s familiarity-front man Bryan Oleson used to play for the Newsboys.
Indeed, the first track “Hard to Believe” will give you a nostalgic Newsboys experience within 30 seconds of pushing play. (I wonder if VOTA’s drummer can play while hanging upside too?) Lyrically, VOTA exhibits a maturity and depth that belies their newcomer status. Don’t miss the Collective Soul-sounding guitar riff in “Not Finished.” Nice.
VOTA delivers a memorable debut and effectively breaks into the Christian mainstream. They expertly blur the line between cutting edge and familiar while leaving you glad you gave VOTA a chance.
